“Translate” your hunger

What we want to eat and what we really need to eat is not always in line - learn what it truly means when you want to eat chocolate, cheese, meat, popcorn…

There isn’t a person who hasn’t at least once felt the need for a certain type of food. To understand the hunger for ice cream, chocolate, fried potatoes and similar foods is not always easy. It often happens that what we want to eat has nothing to do with what we need to eat, because our body is looking for something else.

If you can understand what your body lacks and craves for (provided that this hunger is not emotionally motivated), it will be easier for you to reach the heart of the problem (increased need for specific food) and solve it.

The first advice is that, before you decide to satisfy your hunger (for any kind of food), you drink a full glass of water. Most experts believe that people sometimes simply don’t know that they have dehydrated, so they think that they need a few bites.

If water doesn’t satisfy you, here's what Michelle Schoffro Cook advises, an internationally acclaimed author and doctor of natural medicine, in her book "The Life Force Diet".

Chocolate

If you want to eat a lot of chocolate, it does not mean that your body wants chocolate. Chocolate is rich in magnesium. So, you are missing magnesium.

Eat a small amount of dark chocolate or make a cocoa shake. Eat nuts, seeds, fish and leafy vegetables.

Salty food

Popcorn and chips - if you're hankering for them (in excessive extent) you probably have disturbed levels of stress hormones. The first step, therefore, is dealing with stress. Meditate, practice breathing and use other relaxation techniques.

After that, eat leafy vegetables, and ingest high-quality vitamin B complex and vitamin C in your organism.

Sweets (all kinds)

Your blood sugar levels are disrupted or the fluctuations in their levels are drastic. Whether it is a chronic or occasional occurrence, it is important to restore the balance with proper choice of food. Enjoyment in candies, cakes, and other sweets will only create bigger problems.

Instead, eat some fruit. Then, beans or peas and complex carbohydrates like whole grains.

Cheese or pizza

If you want to eat cheese or pizza, it usually means that you have a lack of fatty acids - which is very common for most people.

Eat raw nuts, then salmon and flax seed. Also, eat anything that contains a significant amount of omega-3 fatty acids. Skip cheese.

Red meat

A lack of iron. Women during their cycle usually crave for burgers, steaks and other grilled meats.

Eat peas, legume, plums, figs and other dried fruits. Vitamin C improves the intake of iron into the body, so combine them - eat lemons, red peppers, tomatoes and berries.
