Perfume – how to choose the right one?

With some many perfumes out there, choosing the right one isn’t that easy. Here are some rules that can help you at that.

This one is too sweet,  this one too strong, this one is old”…How is it possible that with some many fragrances that are available today, we are more and more sounding so indecisive and frustrated when choosing one for ourselves. In our own defense we can say that choosing the right perfume isn’t that easy task because it needs to represent our ideal olfactory signature, or, at least, to be the best one that "goes" with our style and time of year.

To make the right choice regarding perfume, you need to arm yourself with patience, give yourself plenty of time and act like you're going on food or wine degustation. Go with "empty stomach", but be careful not to get "drunk”! Enjoy! And try to follow these ten simple rules.

1. Morning is the best time of day for the selection of perfume, because our nose is "fresh", and the sense of smell is most sensitive.

2. When choosing, don’t wear any other fragrances on your self to avoid unwanted mixing between yours and the fragrance that you are “tasting”.

3. Wear clothing in which you feel most comfortable. This will give a signal to the salesperson to which “type” you belong.

4. The fragrance is developing in one way on the blotter (piece of paper for testing the perfume), and quite another in contact with the skin. If its scent is interesting on the blotter, only then apply it on the skin.

5. Give the perfume time to develop, at least 30 seconds before you smell it for the first time.

6.  No one is forcing you to decide immediately. Take a walk with the scent on the wrist to see how it is "behaving" during the day.

7. Do not try too many perfumes at once because you'll soon get tired of it. Five different scents are the maximum!

8. Try different concentrations. You’ll be surprised how perfume and eau de toilette of the same fragrance can develop completely differently on your skin.

9. Ask for a tester from the salesperson so that you can extend your degustation for several days.

10. Disregard the comments of your friends. Selection of perfume, just like the selection of partner, is too intimate to be influenced by someone else. Why should you care what someone thinks if you really like it.
