Concealer - A Magic Wand

Concealer can really do magic things. It cleverly conceals small imperfections, its ideal for "emergency repairs", and can also be used as cosmetic powder.

However, every magic wand must be used wisely. Even if it is just a concealer.  Exaggerations always turn out to be a bad solution. That is most obvious in the case of immoderate camouflage of dark circles or pimples. The more you try to hide such a problem, it becomes greater.

Makeup artist Dick Page, artistic director of Shiseido, has revealed how you can shine with a concealer.

Avoid too many layers

Page says that every time he sees a woman with to much make up on her dark circles, he wonders what on earth is hidden under so many layers. That is why he and his colleagues do not try to mask completely circles and similar imperfections. Their rich experience has shown that it is aesthetically more acceptable when the irregularities are easily discerned.

If you have the impression that you are losing the battle against dark circles, use a make up brush and liquid concealer, and lightly obscure them. Apply a few dots along dark circles and gently pat them with ring finger until it blends with the color of your skin. When it comes to other irregularities, such as cracked capillaries, pimples or freckles, top make-up artists camouflage them with stick concealers.

Multicolored concealers are there for a reason. They serve to conceal various irregularities. Use green concealer to hide pimples and cracked capillaries, and beige concealer (a little bit lighter than the color of your tan) to hide dark and purple circles under your eyes.

A substitute for powder

If you want to lift your make up skills on a higher level, use a concealer as complexion brightener and for shading features.  Apply a few dots in the inner and outer corner of your eye, just below the arch of your eyebrows and on your cheeks, and pat them with your finger. Concealer can be used as a base for lipstick, and if you are doing that, it is important that you smear it good toward the edges of your lips.

During hot summer days, when wearing heavy makeup is not advised, concealer is sufficient. In case of an emergency, you can you add a little moisturizer or sunscreen and "transform" the concealer in to a powder.
